Building Your Seed Community

This will be a fast paced and fun presentation that highlights the importance of community seed sharing programs. We will discuss why planting, saving and sharing seeds is essential to the cultivation of sustainable neighborhoods, healthy communities, and the preservation of history. We'll also cover how a seed library functions and how to get one started in your neighborhood, plus tips and tricks to keep your seed library open for years to come!

Ben Cohen is the owner of Small House Farm, located in central Michigan. Small House specializes in cold pressed oils and a number of other unique products for the health conscious, Earth friendly consumer. Ben is an heirloom seed activist and founder of MI Seed Library, a community seed sharing network. Over the past few years Ben has helped to establish more than forty seed library programs across the state of Michigan. Ben has grown seed crops commercially for Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company, Annie's Heirlooms and the Rare Vegetable Seed Consortium. Ben's writings have been published by Slow Food Cincinnati, The Essential Herbal Magazine and Seed Broadcast Journal. He is currently working on his first book which he hopes to have available by the fall of 2018.
